Why the iPhone Duo Needs a Secure Dash-Mounted Holder

The iPhone Duo weighs approximately 254 grams and opens to a much wider viewing area than a conventional phone. That additional weight and width can place greater leverage on a holder, particularly when the vehicle travels over bumps or rough roads.

For the strongest and most stable magnetic connection while driving, we recommend attaching the iPhone Duo to the holder in its folded position. We do not recommend driving with the Duo attached magnetically in its open position. Opening the phone shifts more weight away from the holder and may increase movement or reduce stability.

Very thick or poorly aligned cases can weaken the magnetic connection. Wallets, finger grips, kickstands, solid metal plates and other accessories placed between the phone and holder may also interfere with magnetic attachment or wireless charging.

Apple iPhone Duo Holder FAQs

Will the iPhone Duo work with an A-Tach magnetic holder?

Based on Apple’s published MagSafe and Qi2 specifications, the iPhone Duo is expected to work with A-Tach’s compatible magnetic holders. Because the phone has not yet been physically tested by A-Tach, final compatibility and holding performance cannot be confirmed until testing is completed.

Should the iPhone Duo be open or folded on the holder?

We recommend mounting the iPhone Duo in its folded position while driving. Using it open increases its width and shifts more weight away from the magnetic holder, which can create additional leverage and movement.

Do I need to put an adhesive metal ring on the iPhone Duo?

No. The iPhone Duo has a built-in MagSafe and Qi2 magnetic array, so an additional metal ring should not be necessary.

If you use a case, make sure the case has its own properly aligned MagSafe or Qi2-compatible magnetic ring.

Will an iPhone Duo rugged case work?

It depends on the case. A rugged case should work when it includes a sufficiently strong, properly aligned MagSafe-compatible ring and allows the phone to sit flat against the holder.

Very thick cases or cases with kickstands, wallets and uneven rear surfaces may weaken the hold or interfere with wireless charging.

Can the A-Tach Qi2 holder charge the iPhone Duo at 25 watts?

No. Although the iPhone Duo can accept higher Qi2 charging rates with compatible equipment, the current A-Tach Qi2 holder provides up to 15 watts.

Actual output may be lower depending on the power supply, case, temperature, phone settings and other operating conditions.

Does this holder include the vehicle-specific dash mount?

No. A-Tach uses a two-part system. The iPhone Duo holder and vehicle-specific dash mount are selected and purchased separately so you can match both your phone needs and your exact vehicle.

Will the holder work with wired Apple CarPlay?

Yes, but the phone must still be connected to the vehicle’s appropriate USB port when wired Apple CarPlay is required. Wireless charging does not create the wired data connection needed by some vehicle systems.

Can I reuse the holder when I change vehicles?

In many cases, yes. Because the holder and dash mount are separate components, you may be able to keep the iPhone Duo holder and purchase a different A-Tach mount designed for your next vehicle.
