Phone mount for Corvette C8
I only use this on long highway trips, so I want the mount to be reasonably easy to install and remove. I want it to hold the phone up high so I don’t have to take my eyes as far off the road for too long or to have to look far away from the road ahead. I don’t want to give up a cupholder. I want it to hold the phone within easy reach, so I can tap the screen when desired.
I looked at the A-Tach mount online several times. It says it’s supposed to stick to the top of the screen with some double-sided tape, but the more I looked at it the more I was convinced it would work just fine without the tape. So I ordered one, and test fit it without exposing the tape. It’s fine! It snaps over the top and bottom of the screen very firmly, and isn’t going to go anywhere. In fact, it takes quite a bit of force to remove it. If I were putting it on and removing it frequently, it might be annoyingly hard. But it works for my needs.
I then mounted a phone holder from ProClip. It’s adjustable for width and angle, and my phone in its case slides right in and out. No clamps to mess with. Much easier to use than the clamp type one A-Tach sells, and I don’t need to put steel plate on the back of my phone (that interferes with wireless charging) for a magnetic mount. I’ve used this setup on two trips now.
Verdict? I’m very pleased. It meets all my requirements. The mount is rock solid, without even a hint of vibration. The phone sits up high, where it’s easy to see at a glance and easy to reach with my right hand.
Drawbacks? Well, it’s not very pretty, but since I only use it when necessary I’m not staring at it all the time, like a mount that gets glued on. And honestly, there aren’t a lot of good options for the C8.
The manufacturer claims it doesn’t block the screen, but that’s only 99% true. With Android Auto running, the very top right of the screen, where it shows temp, weather, phone battery and signal strength, some of that info is partially cut off. Hardly a big deal.
With the phone holder installed, it makes any icons or buttons on the right edge of the screen a bit harder to tap. Not impossible by any means, but harder.
And it isn’t very easy to remove, but since A-Tach doesn’t claim it’s designed to be removed, that’s not really a fair complaint..
And….. that’s it. Functional, not in the way, and does just what I need it to.
